What’s On My Bookshelf: June

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a big fan of self-development. In my spare time, you can always find me looking for ways to improve as a CEO and mum. I’m especially partial to self-development books, because I’m fascinated by the relationship between personal improvement and business success. Lately I’ve been trying to find books that bridge that gap and tie the two topics together, and I’ve had some amazing luck!

recently had the opportunity to dive into two incredible non-fiction reads that I’m so excited to share about today. If you’re a business and self-development junkie like me, you will want to add these new additions to your bookshelf ASAP.

Let’s dive into what’s on my bookshelf this June!

  • Rocket Fuel: The One Essential Combination That Will Get You More of What You Want From Your Business by Gino Wickman

Rocket Fuel is a fascinating read about the difference between Visionaries and Integrators in business, and how an effective relationship between the two can actually make a business thrive. The basic premise is that without an Integrator, a Visionary is far less likely to succeed long-term, and vice versa. When these two different styles of approaching business come together, however, the combination can be explosive and powerful — with the potential to propel your business to new heights.

  • Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown
If you’ve ever found yourself feeling stretched too thin, or like you’re busy but not actually productive, I would highly recommend Essentialism. The basic idea is that a lot of the tasks we add to our plate aren’t really essential to our lives. We over-complicate things by taking on too much, when we should really aim to do less, but better, in every area of our lives.Essentialism is an interesting read because a lot of the concepts are tied to mindfulness and really encourage the reader to stay in the moment and focus on the now. As business owners, it’s in our nature to take on too much (we are all overachievers, after all!), but this book serves as a wonderful reminder to be selective about how we spend our precious time and energy.
  • Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones

Atomic Habits is a great read that offers a proven framework for positive habit formation. The book is filled with practical strategies that make forming good habits and breaking negative ones actually approachable. Atomic Habits digs into the psychology behind habit making and breaking in a really fun and easy to understand way.

I’m really enjoying this one because as a CEO and mum of three, habits are what keep things running smoothly — I love setting a routine and sticking to it, and this book is offering wonderful insight into how to do that even more effectively.

I’m always looking for self-development and business book recommendations to add to my shelf. If you have any, please leave them in the comments below! I would love to hear from you.
